My name is John Matthews. I'm a veteran D.C. news anchor, talk show host, reporter, producer, writer, manager and all-around broadcast professional.
- I spent more than twenty years as a reporter, and later, News Director of WMAL-AM, ABC’s News/Talk radio station in Washington, DC. Under my leadership, WMAL won numerous national news honors, including the Edward R. Murrow Award as America’s Best Radio News Operation.
- As a reporter, I was honored with broadcasting’s equivalent to the Pulitzer Prize, the duPont/Columbia University Silver Baton, for an investigative series on Disney's planned theme park in Northern Virginia.
- I have extensive experience managing a busy newsroom under critical circumstances, including September 11th and the subsequent anthrax scare on Capitol Hill, the DC area sniper attacks, major blizzards and other natural disasters.
- I created, developed and launched the news content format for 630WMAL.com, and am fully versed in the integration of the traditional and digital mediums.
- My blog, Life On The Beach, has seen a steady growth in daily readership. It chronicles my take on life, the news and the World at large.
- I have also written and produced biographies, magazine articles, advertising copy, comedy bits, radio on-air promos, speeches and many other forms of both verbal and print communication.
