
I was honored with the duPont/Columbia University Silver Baton, broadcasting's equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize, for American History - The Disney Version (Listen to a clip here). This investigative series studied Disney's plan to build a theme park resort in Haymarket, Virginia, just west of the Manassas Civil War battlefield. The award was presented on national television. In the wake of the September 11th attacks, 630 WMAL was honored with the National Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence, as America's Best Radio News team. Click to hear a short sample of our coverage.
A year later, tragedy struck the Nation's Capital again, as snipers unleashed a personal wave of terror on the entire region. 630 WMAL was again honored with a National Edward R. Murrow award for its coverage.
In all, WMAL was honored with four National Murrows during my tenure as News Director.

I have received several National Headliner awards for my work, including one for a series on the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd. Under my leadership as News Director, WMAL was also honored for its September 11th reportage as well as for its team coverage of Hurricane Isabel.


I have also been honored with dozens of local, state and regional news awards from groups including the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Maryland/DC/Delaware Broadcasters Association and the March of Dimes/Achievement in Radio awards organizations, among others.
